OUR PUPPIES

Puppies are joyful companions that brighten our lives. Their playful energy and wagging tails bring smiles to everyone.

With them, we experience beauty of friendship and love.

Welcoming a puppy means a fun adventure filled with laughter and memories!

Our puppies are, and will always be, a beloved extension of our family. They are handled with care and socialized as much as humanly possible from birth until they leave to be with their new family.

All Sun Meadow Appenzeller litters are registered with the AMDCA (Appenzell Mountain Dog Club of America) and the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club).

All puppies:

have their rear dew claws removed when they are between 3 to 5 days of age.
undergo aptitude testing for dominance and submission at seven (7) weeks of age. This testing helps to predict future behavioral traits. Knowing a puppy’s behavioral traits will help you to understand what behaviors need to be focussed on as your puppy is being trained and what type of activities your puppy will enjoy the most.
are evaluated for form & structure between seven (7) and eight (8) weeks of age. What you see at this age, is what you get. If the pup has strong and straight front and back legs, with all four feet pointing in the same direction, it will grow up that way, provided you give it the proper diet and environment in which to grow.
are dewormed,
are microchipped for identification,
have at minimum, their first set of DAPP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus) vaccinations before they are released to their new home.
go home with a puppy care package that includes paperwork, and basic starter supplies to help get them settled into their new home.
come with a 3-year health guarantee from the date of their birth against any immediate life-threatening hereditary and congenital defects.

All of our new puppy owners will receive their first year of membership to the AMDCA and their puppy will be individually registered with the AMDCA, compliments of Sun Meadow Appenzellers.

An AMDCA membership ensures that, in addition to the support you will receive from Sun Meadow Appenzellers, you will also have an additional network of support and resources available to you from other experienced Appenzeller owners anytime you need it.
Having your puppy individually registered with the AMCDA will provide you with registration and pedigree documents. These documents will allow you to register your Appenzeller with the CKC and/or the AKC if you choose to do so.

Our pet and companion puppy price is set at $3,000 in Canadian currency. All of our pet and companion puppies are sold under a non-breeding agreement. We believe in responsible pet ownership and want to ensure that our puppies are placed in loving homes that prioritize their well-being. We thank you for understanding our commitment to ethical practices in pet adoption.

We encourage Buyers to visit and pick up their puppies in person, but we are more than willing to assist with delivery arrangements if/when needed. Costs for shipping and delivery are not included in the puppy price.

We breed for the future, health, and wellness of the Appenzell Sennenhund breed and do not intend to bring unwanted puppies into this world.

For this reason, we require a minimum of 5 pre-approved applicants before going ahead with a breeding. Pre-approved applicants get first selection of puppies in chronological order of their deposit dates. Please see 'How to Become a Pre-Approved Applicant' below.

If you don't want to be pre-approved, that's okay too. You can still be added to our waiting list by completing and submitting an online application form.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the current CDC import/export regulation changes prohibiting puppies under 6 months of age from traveling to the US from Canada, we cannot provide US residents with younger puppies. The AKC (American Kennel Club) and the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) are currently working with the CDC to have this ruling changed. We will provide an update if/when this rule does change.

How to Become a Pre-Approved Applicant:

1. Complete and submit an application form.

2. Join our Facebook group.

When we receive, review, and confirm your application, we will invite you to join our Sun Meadow Appenzellers Facebook group where you are welcome to ask any questions you have about the Appenzeller breed and or Sun Meadow Appenzellers. It is a good way to start getting to know each other a bit better. It also helps us to understand where you may need guidance in becoming an Appenzeller owner and where we can help you learn more about the Appenzeller breed and community.

3. Submit a Deposit. A $500 deposit is required before day 4 of the dam's heat cycle. Deposits can be made in advance but are due upon request of the breeder. Please note that deposits made by pre-approved applicants are only refundable in the event there are not enough puppies in a litter for any/all pre-approved applicants.
